About Cashmir Luke

As the manager of the MedicalOne outpatient care center in Antioch, CA, Cashmir Luke is responsible for ensuring the delivery of community-based mental health services to individuals with cognitive and substance abuse issues.

Cashmir is a hard worker dedicated to his role in the healthcare industry. Oddly enough, he began his career in a different sector – the real estate business. He spent five years with Long and Foster Realtors in Takoma Park, Maryland, while concurrently attending Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Maryland. Once he decided on the path he wanted to follow, Cashmir adjusted his career and educational goals. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. At the same time, he worked at the Tennessee Christian Medical Center as a respiratory therapy supervisor and rehab coordinator.

Working full-time while earning a degree is not for the faint of heart. Cashmir Luke spent four years as the pharmacy manager for the Walmart Pharmacy in Owings Mills, MD, while pursuing his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Shenandoah University’s Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy in Winchester, Virginia.

In addition to his extensive education, Cashmir learned the ins and outs of the healthcare trade through real-world experience. He completed clerkships for various specialties, such as IV Channel Infusion and Nutritional Pharmacy. Cashmir worked as a respiratory therapist at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, followed by the role of manager and clinical pharmacist at Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore. Cashmir also worked as a pharmacy intern at the Walmart Pharmacy in Baltimore, Maryland, for several years. In this role, Cashmir assisted pharmacists in receiving, filling, and dispensing medications; counseled patients on the appropriate prescription and OTC drug use; provided information to physicians, healthcare professionals, and the general public about drug-related issues; filed insurance claims; and determined product pricing. As a pharmacy intern inside the Johns Hopkins Hospital Clinical Pharmacy, Cashmir Luke worked closely with physicians in choosing the appropriate medications for patients.

Over the years, Cashmir has given informational lectures to a variety of audiences, including the pharmacy staff at Kaiser Permanente, pharmacists working with Kaiser’s ambulatory care, residents of nursing homes and senior centers, and pharmacists on staff at hospitals. Topics have included methamphetamines and the use of OTC drugs, telepharmacy, diabetes and who is at risk, the role of ketoconazole in treating methemoglobinemia, and changes in Medicare D reimbursements for retail pharmacies.
